Corian® solid surface in a healthcare spaces project
In shortSolid surface is specified in hospitals and clinics because it is non-porous and can be fabricated seamlessly, with integrated, coved sinks and backsplashes that leave no joint for contaminants to collect in. It stands up to routine cleaning with hospital disinfectants and can be repaired in place instead of replaced.

Questions

Healthcare Spaces — frequently asked

Why is solid surface used in hospitals?

Because it is non-porous and seamless: bowls, splashes and tops are bonded into one surface with no joints or grout for contaminants to collect in, and it tolerates repeated cleaning with healthcare disinfectants.

Is solid surface antimicrobial?

No surface should be sold as such without EPA registration. Solid surface is non-porous and does not support the growth of mold or mildew when properly cleaned; its value in healthcare is that it is seamless and easy to clean and disinfect.

Can solid surface stand up to hospital disinfectants?

Corian® publishes chemical-resistance and cleaning guidance for common healthcare disinfectants; follow the manufacturer’s bulletin for concentrations and dwell times.

What is the Corian® 5315 Baby Bath?

A Care Collection healthcare lavatory for bathing newborns — 24″ × 14″ overall, 6-1/8″ deep — integrated into our Medical Birthing Countertops.

Does solid surface meet FGI and ADA requirements?

The material is used widely in FGI-guided facilities; compliance comes from the design — heights, clearances and fixtures — which the configurator lets you set to your drawings. Verify your local code edition.

Can damaged tops be repaired on site?

Yes. Scratches, stains and chips can be sanded out or patched in place, without removing the top.
